ever, still luxuristing in the ides that it is quite as matural for women to maintain that "besntirul allegiance" to the governing power displayed in man. as it is for them to exorcise it, individually, as the head of the family, and colectively as law-maker and executive. They forget that all history bas substantinted the fact that man loves power in every form. and is ever ready to abuse it as monopobist, sivebolder, despot, unless restricted by wise and righteons laws. These are the men who thooght slaves exhibited a peculiar fitness for their situstion a such. If so, there seem to be noble elements in their character also which proved them equsl to the responsibilities of freedom. Before the day of emancipation came, many were the forebodings of “consequences dire," in the sudden sransition from bondage to liberty. Surely, if the ignorant slave has been equal to such a test. and can be trusted with the inalienable right of citizenship, it only remains for educated woman to prove, that m her hands the ballot may be used conscientiously and justly.

Possibly the same class of men scent danger in the effect of too much conscience in political affair. We often hear the motbers of Americs exhorted to bring up their sops to a realizmg sense of their duties and responsibilities as citizens, not only that, but fit them for those grand possibilities of Senstor, even President At the tomb of Washington's mother, President Jaokoon said, in clowing his address “Shall there be more men like Washimgton? Shall our land be peopled with such, or shall there be even enough to rule in the halls of legislation, so that we may become a land blessed with almost millennial bappiness? Will the mothers of the land answer?"Is not the teacher supposed to understand that which is taught ? Snch duties as these must prepare a woman's mind for the expression of her sentiments on vital questions, which may as intimately concern herself as her husband, son, or brother. The peculiar talent of men for mary of their avocations may be readily acquired; eonstant practice makes it what it is. And those excellencies, often looked upon as natursl endowments, will, if examined, be found to result from practice and close application, something which women generally know very httle of from experience, but which would inevitably make them not only happier, but more nseful members of socioty.

All are by mature free and equal. Tis their consent slone gives just dominion

From the beginning it was seen by the Creetor that it was mot good for man to be alone, and so he hastoned to govern himse lf accordingly. And ever since it has been growing more and more apparent that woman slone, is slike bad economy. The Nationsl Woman, Suftrage Association last year elected only women to office and it soon went abroad almost universally, that only women were all wed to belong to the organisation and immense, mischiet was the result, as might have beon expocted.
